Cabecera Municipal, Esparta
Sanitation, Treatment Plant, and Drainage Design
The downtown area of Esparta consists of approximately 1,100 people. The majority of houses have either septic tanks or latrines. During large rainstorms these facilities either back up or flood because of the high groundwater table and the poorly draining soil in the region. The result causes health risks and unpleasant odors.
The community requested a piped sewer system with a pump station that discharges to a stabilization pond for primary treatment.
