Barrio El Centro, La Lima
Sewer system evaluation and redesign (Plan Maestro)

The pump station for El Centro does not adequately pump the wastewater. A percentage of the sewage waste is discharged directly into the ocean. The collection system in this neighborhood was built in the 1950’s. The built up sediment in the pipes causes many manholes in the system to overflow during large rainstorms. Puddles of raw sewage collect in the streets.

The Municipality of Tela commissioned Global Community Development in August 2008, to provide engineering consultation to evaluate the integrity of the existing system and to propose a plan to alleviate the problems caused by system overflow.

A team of engineers from Global Community Development reported a design of three options with a list of positive and negative impacts and preliminary cost estimates.
