La Lima
The Municipality of La Lima lies east of San Pedro Sula in the midst of the flood plains of the Rio Chamelecon and Rio Ulua. Both large rivers periodically flood the area that is predominately agricultural with large plantations of banana, oil palm, and sugar cane.
It also has a rapidly growing industrial sector that is part of the Free Trade Zone, which with its tax and other advantages has caused rapid population growth because of increased job opportunities. The population has been growing at nearly 10 percent for the past several years with several new communities coming into existence.
